Wedding Coordinator or Wedding Planner - Which Do You Need?

Updated: Mar 5

One of the more popular wedding questions typed into Google's search engine is asking the difference between a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Coordinator.

WEDDING COORDINATOR

Simply put, a Wedding Coordinator will take the reins for what a couple has already planned for their wedding. Wedding Coordinators will come along side and partner with you, helping tie up loose ends, finalize timelines, be the day-of point of contact for your vendors and venue, answering all questions and solving any hiccups that may come up on your wedding day. They will also likely call and confirm contract details, arrival times and be available throughout your wedding day to provide that sense of peace and serenity every bride and groom deserves. Wedding Coordinators can begin partnering with a couple anywhere from a month or two before their wedding or as little as a few weeks before - all dependent on how much weight the couple would like to carry leading up to their wedding.

WEDDING PLANNER

Keeping things clean cut, a Wedding Planner will be by your side through every single phase of the wedding planning process. From designing details to negotiating contracts and tracking payments, to scheduling and attending site tours, menu tastings and even securing hotel room blocks and transportation; Wedding Planners are there for every single detail, from your wedding budget to the wedding day breakdown, they are by your side from start to finish.

Now hear me out, Wedding Planners can also be considered Wedding Coordinators (managing and executing all day-of details), but not vise versa. If you have very little desire or organizational skills and have the budget, hiring a Wedding Planner might just be the best bet for you. However, if you're on a tight budget, yet you enjoy planning and organizing details (or have a friend or two that do!), hiring a Wedding Coordinator can be that breath of fresh air that you need, knowing your work is being triple checked and that all details will be managed and executed seamlessly.

DON'T MISS THIS!

One final note that all couples (specifically brides!) need to hear: always, ALWAYS put someone in charge of your day-of details! Whether that is a wedding coordinator or a wedding planner, you deserve the freedom on your wedding day to remove the details and just be.

I cannot stress this enough - if your initial budget does not allow for a Wedding Planner, that is just fine and completely understandable. However, please do yourself a favor and at the very least secure an experienced Day-Of Wedding Coordinator, allowing yourself, your family and friends the freedom to be fully present throughout your wedding festivities.

All couples deserve to be fully present for their entire wedding day...and when you are a planner yourself, letting go of the details and control can be very difficult (I am speaking to myself here!), but asking for help and allowing others to carry the weight on your wedding day is the only way you will be able to be emotionally connected and experience what it's like to be a bride or groom. That is truly the most important part of your entire wedding day and wedding experience - being fully present as you commit to the love of your life, creating memories of a lifetime.
